After exhausting consultations with the Western Cape government regarding a Judicial Commission of Inquiry, civil society will convene a People’s Commission as an advocacy strategy towards eliminating violence against children.
The Trauma Centre together with 17 peer organisations will convene the second phase of its People’s Commission on the 14th and 15th November 2018 at the Novalis Ubuntu Centre, Wynberg. The People’s Commission started in July when the voices of children were heard at the Nelson Mandela Annual Youth Dialogue. Four People’s Commissioners (Commissioner Chris Nissen, Dr Llewellyn MacMaster, Lorna Houston and former Truth and Reconciliation Commissioner will hear the testimony of ward councillors, parents, community leaders, and civil society organisations regarding potential solutions to strengthening child protection and safety interventions.
Communities are welcome to attend however seats are limited.
