The Trauma Centre, its peers and the communities who supported the People’s Commission of Inquiry into Child Safety in the Western Cape are pleased to release the final report. In a moving tribute to children who lost their lives, a Children’s memorial was opened on the 8th August 2019, a day before Women’s Day. The Children’s Memorial captures the testimonies of nearly 2000 children who testified before the People’s Commission. The children, says Valdi Van Reenen-Le Roux, executive director of the Trauma Centre hold all adults equally responsible for child adversity. She notes, “ the children have spared no adult from the responsibility of ensuring that they have a better life. We as adults, therefore, need to rise to greater heights in supporting our children through collaborative interventions.
