CHILD PROTECTION WEEK

Published by Trauma on

For Child Protection Week, The Trauma Centre together with organisations Molo Songololo and Masithembele sent a memorandum to the police for improving services to children. We asked for: After hours social work number to be visible/available to charge office staff 24/7The police station be willing to be trained on their role in terms of the Children’s Act 37 of 2005 Availability of Detectives on cases where children are involved and improvement in communication between detectives and children We are happy to say we had the opportunity to meet with the station commander Brigadier Damoyi who gave us their senior command officer number if we have any challenges with SAPS service delivery. We also secured the second week of July to do victims’ rights training to 15 SAPS officers over three days.  Currently the police station has the highest case number of sexual offences in the country. We would rather like the police station to be the number one in service delivery to women and children in the country.
